On 14 December 2024, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary, a milestone that reflects three decades of unparalleled hospitality, visionary leadership, and a steadfast commitment to conservation. As one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic tourism establishments, the lodge has not only stood out for its exceptional hospitality, but also cemented its place as a pioneer in sustainable tourism.

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge owes its origins to the bold vision of founders Dave Glynn and Ross Kennedy. Their dream was to create a destination that offered more than just memorable holidays but would also provide an immersion into the natural beauty of Victoria Falls while preserving the pristine environment of the destination.

Built to blend with its surroundings, the lodge set a new benchmark in eco-tourism from the outset by engaging an environmental architect to ensure minimal disruption to the landscape. This approach laid the foundation for a legacy of sustainability and led to the lodge being awarded the prestigious international Green Globe Distinction Award in 2000 for outstanding environmental practices in its construction.

Perched on a plateau overlooking the Zambezi National Park and a wildlife-rich waterhole, the 72-roomed Victoria Falls Safari Lodge provides breathtaking views of the bushveld. From the lodge’s viewing deck to the private balconies of its rooms, guests have the opportunity to enjoy extraordinary encounters with wildlife in their natural habitat.

For three decades, the lodge has maintained its reputation for exceptional service and world-class hospitality. Its numerous accolades speak volumes, one of which is a remarkable 26 consecutive wins as Zimbabwe’s Best Resort Hotel from the Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents. The lodge’s restaurants MaKuwa-Kuwa and The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show, are celebrated far and wide for their unique culinary experiences.

Over the years, the lodge has spearheaded impactful conservation initiatives, including the establishment of the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit in 1999 together with local conservationist Charles Brightman, the Vulture Culture Experience, and the Victoria Falls Recycling Project. These efforts not only protect local wildlife but also promote environmental stewardship and benefit the surrounding communities.

The success of Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is rooted in its outstanding staff, many of whom have been with the lodge since its inception. Their dedication, expertise, and passion ensure every guest feels at home.

Founder Ross Kennedy reflects, “Our staff are the soul of Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Their commitment to our vision and passion for excellence have been instrumental in our success over the last 30 years.”

Managing Director Nigel Frost adds, “This anniversary is a tribute to the people who have been part of this incredible journey. It’s their resilience and determination that have enabled us to not only endure challenges but thrive, creating a legacy of excellence.”

As it celebrates its 30th anniversary, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge looks forward to an even brighter future. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and the same unwavering dedication that has defined its first three decades, the lodge is poised to remain a leader in Zimbabwe’s tourism landscape for many years to come.

Operated by Africa Albida Tourism, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is the flagship property of the Victoria Falls Safari Collection, which includes Victoria Falls Safari Club, Victoria Falls Safari Suites, Lokuthula Lodges, Victoria Falls Safari Spa, and The Boma – Dinner & Drum Show, all located on the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge estate, just 4km from the Victoria Falls.
